Thank you for your friendly emails.

Life is good, family is good, and all is well.

I'm just taking a break from this fun journey.

I'm reevaluating how I'm spending my time for 2012.
( I'm going shopping for more fabric) ha ha

As my kids grow older, I find my time with them extremely valuable.
They are all growing up way too fast!

My Etsy shop is currently closed.

It's getting harder and harder to

keep up with the consistency of regular posts along with a well stocked Etsy shop.

I feel I need to spend more time in other places.

I love the creativity and inspiration that is all around us on the web.

I love your comments, your support and cherish the friendships I've made.

This may be a temporary thing, I'm not sure.

I just want to let you know why there has

been a lack of posts for the last several weeks.

I love my followers and appreciate you all so much!
It's been a joy getting to know all of you!

15 Reasons for Buying Fabric

It insulates the closet where it is kept.
It helps keep the economy going.
It is our patriotic duty to support cotton farmers, textile mills and quilt shops.
It is less expensive and more FUN than psychiatric care.
Because it's ON SALE.
I'm participating in a contest...the one who dies with the most fabric wins.
It keeps without refrigeration, you don't have to cook it to enjoy it, you never have to feed it, change it, wipe its nose, or walk it.
I need extra weight in the trunk of my car for traction on snowy icy roads. This is important, even in Florida, Southern California and ARIZONA...you never know when the weather will change.
Because I'm worth it.
Like dust, it's good for protecting previously empty spaces in the house, like the ironing board, the laundry hamper and the dining room table.
When the Big Earthquake comes, all the quilt shops might be swallowed into the ground and never be seen again.
Stress from dealing with the Fabric Control Officer (my husband) made me do it.
It's not immoral or fattening. It calms the nerves, gratifies the soul, and makes me feel good.
Buy it now, before your husband retires and goes with you on all your shopping expeditions.
A yard a day is all the quilt shops of America ask.

All You Need Is Love

It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80′s arrived at the hospital to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am. The nurse took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would be able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound. While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor’s appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer’s Disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now. I was surprised, and asked him, ‘And you still go every morning, even though she doesn’t know who you are?’ He smiled as he patted my hand and said, ‘She doesn’t know me, but I still know who she is."

A Christ-Centered Christmas would be a great gift for those you love as it invites all to feel and learn the real lessons behind the symbols we so often see this time of year...the bell, the star, the Shepard's crook. A Christmas Goodnight

A Christmas Goodnight ,written by Nola Buck and illustrated by Sarah Jane Wright. Sarah Jane is also a textile designer. I love her work!

This is brand new this year, and a must have for your Christmas library! The story is in simple rhyme, and is so soothing to read at any time of day...but particularly bedtime. Much like Goodnight Moon in theme, the story starts off saying goodnight to all the characters in the Christmas Story, and then pans gracefully to a Christmas Eve scene where a little boy is now saying goodnight to the characters in his creche. A very warm depiction of that special night!

Give a personalized Christmas photo ornament to the special people on your list.

I made several for my Nursery kids(age 18 mths-3 years), the kids were so cute picking their ornaments off the Christmas Tree! I want to share the smiles!

Supplies:

What you'll need:

Clear Christmas Bulbs about 6" or larger with removable tops/hooks
Photos
Scissors
Pencil or paintbrush or Q-tips
Optional: Paint, Christmas ribbon, Potpourri

How to make it:

Take tops off of clear bulbs. Cut picture about the same diameter of bulb.
Wrap photo around pencil (photo side out).
Slip pencil and picture into bulb.
Use pencil or q-tips to straighten out picture to stand upright in the middle of bulb.
Optional: Fill up back side of picture. You can add potpourri or ribbons to the inside to the back of photo.
Then with some paint on the opposite of picture add the date, your name, your greeting etc.
Tie a ribbon around the top, put top back on.

Nearly 200 Handmade Christmas Stockings were made from
The Arizona Sewing Circle "Sit and Sew" group from
The Old World Quilt Shop in Cave Creek, Arizona

The word of their project spread and the group of six were able to gather additional donations including bags full of stocking stuffers, toiletries, socks, coloring books, crayons, toothpaste and toothbrushes.

The center is in need of a couple more sponsors/groups to donate about 50-75 more handmade
Christmas Stockings, so every child who visits the center
leading up to Christmas will have a Stocking filled with gifts.

The Art of Holiday Letter Writing

Sometimes, all people need for Christmas is a heartfelt letter. When I was younger, I remember feeling that Christmas didn’t officially start until I got holiday letters from my grandmother and aunts. In our family, we send out an annual holiday newsletter to relatives and friends. After several years of doing this, I believe we've mastered the art of holiday letter writing (even my kids!).

Here are three important things to remember when writing holiday letters:

WHO: Who do you want to send it to? Holiday letters are great for friends and family, but it may not be appropriate for your lawyer or dentist (unless you've cultivated a close relationship with them). Carefully choose who you want to update with the personal details of your life, as this can be too much information for some people. Realsimple.com suggests asking yourself this: Do you think you would want to get a holiday letter from this person? If the answer is no, they're probably not a good addition to your list.

WHAT: What should you include in the letter? This depends on the person receiving it, but a simple rule to avoid over-sharing is to segregate the people on your list into groups: family, close friends, distant friends and relatives. After this, you can decide on the kind of information you want to share with each. Update them about the milestones of your year. Another good idea is to ask your kids to write down their messages and put them in as "Sean's thoughts" or however you want to caption it.

HOW: Electronic or handwritten? Personally, I always go for handwritten cards. There’s just something about handwritten letters that tug at my heartstrings. I use recycled paper and make my own recyclable cards. However, if you prefer to send electronic letters and your loved ones are much more inclined to get those, please do so. (It's also more earth-friendly!) Don't forget to include a photo or two of the family; it can either be a candid photo or something taken by a professional.

Writing a holiday letter is easy as pumpkin pie when you know the how, what and who involved. Try these tips to be a holiday letter expert and send out cards that will truly be memorable.

This wreath may look familiar.

(Last year, I showed you this wreath in early November).

I've received many emails asking for a tutorial or information on how to make this wreath.

I've had this wreath on my Projects To Do List since last year.

I'm happy to say--mission accomplished.

My wreath doesn't look exactly like the one shown.

I changed mine a little bit.

I attempted this project last weekend.

It was fun to make and the weather was warm and beautiful.

I made it outside in my driveway, with the echo of birds singing in the trees.

It was with complete JOY to Create!

Let's get started:

I will show you how simple this wreath is to make.

I was lucky to find some of the materials at The Dollar Store.
The total cost of this wreath was around $16.00, but that does not include the wreath.
(I had the wreath on hand. )

Materials:

Bird Nest: JoAnns

Birds: Dollar Tree

Transparent off white ribbon: Dollar Tree

Large Grapevine Wreath-optional spray paint off white

Ornaments approx 17-25: Dollar Tree

Picks and baby breathe: JoAnns (50% off)

glue gun and scissors

Step One:

Break off baby breath and place in grapevine wreath as shown.

Glue with glue fun into place

Step Two:

Place baby winter white garland bead into grapevine securing into place with glue gun or tucking the picks deep inside the grapevine.

Step Three:

Make bow with transparent ribbon, secure into place with glue gun

attach birds and birds nest below the ribbon ribbon bow on the right side.

Step Four:

place and glue approximately 16-17 small to medium sized ornaments around wreath.

Step Five:
Display your wreath and ENJOY!

A great wreath for indoors and outdoors.
I like this wreath because It is one that can be
displayed through the winter months, long in to 2012!

We all know that pictures are the best ways to preserve memories, and the holiday season is the perfect setting. This is because everyone you love is present, the mood is festive, and your home is dressed up for the occasion. There’s always something going on, like opening the Christmas presents, Suzy laughing with Grandpa, folks overindulging in chocolate – What great photo opportunities.

Unfortunately, not everyone can take great-looking pictures. I’ve taken my share of horrible-looking pictures. There are the occasional red-eyes and the unavoidable blurry shots, especially when giddy little kids run across the room. Sometimes, the images are too dark or too bright, or the subject is out of focus.

With the advent of the digital imaging, it is much easier now to capture the perfect moments. Every shot you make can instantly be viewed on that small LCD screen in the back of the camera, which is great because you can easily review your pictures or simply delete the ones that you don’t like. The number of shots you can take is limited to the capacity of your memory card. And that limit is a lot compared to the old-school film cameras.

However, I want you to focus on the quality of the shots, not the quantity. You may be able to take hundreds of pictures on your digital camera, but you have at least make sure that they are worthy of being posted on your family’s fridge door.

You don’t need an expensive digital camera to take great pictures. What you need is creativity and imagination, and your beautiful sturdy hands. Here are simple tricks that you can practice to capture those great holiday moments with your dependable camera:

The camera. Do you see those little buttons in your camera? Yes, they are there for a purpose. That lightning-shaped symbol looks intimidating, but I promise you it’s far from exploding. Press it to turn on the flash of your camera, which is great for dark rooms or if the subject is against the light.

Next is that flower symbol which activates the macro shots features. The macro setting should be enabled to take super close up shots of smaller subjects. For instance, if you want to take clear pictures of the details of your Christmas decor or the reindeer stitches on that table napkin. Move close to the subject when using this feature.

The ISO setting can also be adjusted to avoid blurry images. Higher setting means faster shutter speed, which also means less blurry the photos. Settings can also vary depending on the lighting condition. Try to experiment on the setting while in a particular environment with several test shots.

Turn on the red-eye reduction – the button with an eye symbol. We don’t want people and pets to look like aliens with fiery eyes, do we?

The subject. Use your creativity and imagination in your composition. It’s not difficult to find a subject, but capturing the right moment with all the right elements within that small frame is the key to taking great pictures. There are two tips to remember: avoid placing the subject in the center and take closer pictures.

Most of us take pictures with the subject right in the center of the frame. This creates a boring photo because the subject appears confined. To avoid this restriction, place the subject off the center. In photography, this is called Rule of Thirds. Doing so instantly provides space around the subject which allows a sense of movement and drama on the resulting image.

Move closer to the subject when taking picture. When I say “move closer,” you can use the zoom function of your camera. We want to see more of the subject, not the surrounding background. This is because viewers would appreciate the photos more if they can see details of the subject.

When taking pictures of an activity (for example, a child opening a present), don’t hesitate to take pictures. Lots. This way, you have a better chance of capturing that one magnificent moment. Avoid asking your child to stop, look at the camera, and smile. It’s just too rehearsed. We want candid photos, because these are moments that we want to treasure in our lifetime.

Lastly, pass the camera around. You may be the official photographer in the family, but you also want to be included in your photos, right? Give the camera to the kids. Kids have a different perspective. You’d be surprised on what they can produce. Better yet, use the timer setting of your camera for the obligatory family group pictures.

As you can see, you can easily take amazing holiday pictures like a pro just by learning a few simple guidelines. Just remember, the important thing is not the type of camera that you use, but on how you use it. Have a great holiday!

How to Make Your Mantel Look Festive

This Thanksgiving, I highly recommend using festive mantelpiece displays to add warmth to your fireplace. Personally, I really like dressing up my mantel because it makes my home feel so much more inviting! On that note, I’ve picked out some ideas for mantelpiece displays that I hope will transform your home into the holiday abode you’ve always wanted.

1. A traditional combination of a wreath and garland

The combination of a beautiful wreath and garland on your mantel definitely makes the fireplace a great focal point. I recommend accenting the wreath and garland with some clear or multi-colored Christmas lights. The warm glow from the lights really ties in well with the holiday theme, creating a cozy look. Adding other natural decorations, like holly berries and pine cones, make it look even better!

2. A big basket filled with pine cones

Get a big basket and fill it with some charming pine cones. Since these are really versatile, you can dress them up however you like -- in gold paint or glitter! To add visual interest, I also suggest using pine cones in different sizes and adding other decorative accents like red berries and nuts.

3. A seasonal arrangement made with fruits, vegetables or flowers

One recommendation I could make for decorating your home would be a harvest theme to celebrate Thanksgiving. In line with a theme like this, you can create a mantelpiece display made with fruits, vegetables or flowers in season. I like using butternut squash and pumpkin flowers because of their lovely orange and yellow colors. After placing these in classy, silver bowls, I usually add fresh flowers or dried flowering branches as decorative accents.

4. A well-chosen selection of your favorite decorations and photographs

This is a great chance to display your favorite decorations and photographs that you normally would place elsewhere. I really like displaying framed photographs of my family taken during previous holiday get-togethers! Not only does this bring up good memories, but it also adds a personal touch to your decor. To complement the photographs, I like adding other favorite decorations that I’ve picked up from vintage stores or flea markets.

You’ll see for yourself that using festive mantelpiece displays really does make quite a difference! Just remember to use decorations that blend well with the overall look and feel you want to create. A final suggestion: You can make this more fun by creating these mantelpiece displays together as a family (just don’t forget to ask for help with clean-up afterward). Enjoy!

Hello Friends!

I'm here! I'm just a little behind on where I would like to be on November 10TH.

Last year by this time I had Christmas projects (pictures shown) completed.

Yikes, where am I this year on November 10Th??

I have so many Christmas projects I want to accomplish and share.

I'm hoping to accomplish projects this weekend.

(All my boys will be at the sand dunes)

It seems I live my life in my suburban running here and there and every where.

I did take TIME OUT for

Time Out For Women in Phoenix with my sister this past weekend.

What a great time!

I've been listening to Hilary Weeks new CD Every Step, ever since my return.

I loved it! The speakers were fabulous!

I cherish every moment, every hour, every speaker, and especially spending time with my sister!

I can't wait to attend again!

I'm baking brownies right now (Ghirardelli with chocolate chips). I have 15 more minutes until they are done! I can hardly wait, the smell is wonderful! As I'm waiting, I've been looking for a little Christmas inspiration for my Family Room. I always need a little boost of CREATIVITY to get the wheels in motion for my Holiday Decorating. I start getting the itch to decorate for the Holidays as soon as Halloween is over. How about you?
I found this picture from Pottery Barn on Pinterest. I love everything in this picture! I especially love the adorable little brown wagon! As I look at the charming Christmas decor in this beautiful family room. I think about the Symbols Of Christmas. We are all expressing our love and joy for Christmas through our Holiday Decor. We are displaying candles, the traditional colors of Christmas, along with garlands and wreaths decked out in beautiful ribbon and bows and most importantly the true meaning of Christmas, a reminder from the letters spelling Noel. The time is flying by and soon Thanksgiving will be upon us. I cherish the season.

I love the smell of Christmas Trees, and the cozy comforts of quilts, twinkling lights and the love of family and friends. I love it all, and that is why this Christmas blog came about. I found a cute little red and black polka dot lady bug sitting on my porch today.

I have a Antique (1955) Dining Room Set that I cherish from my Mother.

The Dining Room Set originally belonged to my Grandmother.

There are now three generations of fabrics on the chairs.
I can't bring myself to removing the fabrics, they have a story to tell.

My son has been helping me recover the chairs.

It's been a fun project, including pumpkins to match!

Creating the Pumpkins was the best part!

I love Autumn, especially the colors or Autumn, but you all know that!

It's amazing how one project can be a domino effect.

Sweet Treats

Make a tasty felt lollipop by sandwiching a poster board circle between two decorated felt circles; sew the stack together with a blanket stitch, leaving a small opening for the stick. Cut a length of dowel and insert it in the bottom of the lollipop. Hot-glue a ribbon bow to the dowel and display in a small vase filled with tiny marshmallows.

This Fall Centerpiece is one of my favorites,

and it is SIMPLE and FUN TO CREATE!

Let's Begin!

CREATE A LITTLE FALL HAPPINESS with APPLES!

Start with a sculptured vase.

(I found mine at Kirkland Home)

Add the following items:

Fall garland picks

wire, green Ivy garland or picks, Floral moss, floral picks

Fall wired ribbon, Natural Wired Vigne Metallique(optional)

(1) Grapevine wreath,

A basket that fits perfectly in to the diameter of your vase,

Attach grapevine wreath to your basket.

Choose a basket with a handle,

so you can easily anchor your wreath to the basket handle.

Embellish your grapevine wreath and the diameter of your basket

with green ivy picks, green moss and garland.

Secure ivy in place with floral picks and wire.

You're on your way!

Add Fall garland and ribbon to one side of your wreath and basket.

Add Natural Wired Vigne, Fall wired Ribbon

Let The Fall Happiness Begin!

Embellish with apples, pumpkins, wood signs, and Halloween Decor!

Add a Sign to--

Celebrate Family, Friends, Traditions!

Add a few "SPOOKTACULAR" Pumpkins !

Boys Of Fall Football Snack

Hello everyone!

As I've mentioned in previous posts, my boys are all playing FOOTBALL.

When I came across this FOOTBALL snack, I couldn't resist sharing it.

Here's for the rough and tough BOYS Of Fall---Cheer them on!

This football sandwich and apple helmet were made using dark german wheat bread, turkey, provolone cheese, 1 apple, Twizzler strings, and strawberry cream cheese.

We cut 2 pieces of bread into football shapes. Cut the turkey and cheese to fit and put on the inside. Cut the stripes and laces out of the cheese scraps and add on top of the football. Tilt the apple just a bit and cut off a small piece from the bottom so the apple will stay on the plate. Cut out part of the apple to resemble a helmet. Take a toothpick and poke 3 holes down each side of the cut out part of the apple. Pull off a few Twizzler strips and pinch off 3 pieces to go across that helmet. Pinch off 2 smaller pieces to go down the front of face mask. Poke the longer pieces into the holes...they will pop right in. We glued our shorter pieces on with strawberry cream cheese, but you could use regular, peanut butter, or whatever!

Pumpkin Spice Treats

Celebrate Fall!
Ingredients1 cup canned pumpkin
1/3 cup butter, softened
1 package 2-layer-size spice cake mix
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
Optional: Chocolate Chips
1 recipe Marshmallow-Spice Filling (see recipe below)
Directions1. Preheat oven to 375 degree F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper or foil (grease foil, if using). In a large mixing bowl beat pumpkin and butter with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Add cake mix, eggs, and milk; beat on low speed until combined, and then on medium speed for 1 minute.
2. By the heaping tablespoon, drop mounds of batter 3 inches apart on cookie sheet; keep remaining batter chilled. Bake 15 minutes or until set and lightly browned around edges. Carefully remove from parchment or foil; cool on wire rack. Repeat with remaining batter, lining cooled cookie sheets each time with new parchment or foil. If desired, place cookies in a covered storage container with waxed paper between layers to prevent sticking. Store cookies at room temperature for 24 hours. Prepare Marshmallow-Spice Filling up to 2 hours before serving. Spread about 2-1/2 tablespoons filling on flat side of one cookie; top with a second cookie. Repeat. Serve immediately or cover and chill up to 2 hours. Makes 15 whoopies.
Marshmallow-Spice Filling: Up to 2 hours before serving, beat together 1/2 cup softened butter and one 8-ounce package softened cream cheese until smooth. Add 2 cups sifted powdered sugar, 1/2 of a 7-ounce jar marshmallow cream, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 1/2 teaspoon each ground cinnamon and nutmeg. Beat until well combined.

This SIMPLE PUMPKIN project is easy and FUN to CREATE!

A Fall outdoor project that will bring some

FESTIVE HALLOWEEN/FALL DECOR!

I simply made my pumpkins with wood scraps (2 X 6) measuring 11 inches length.

Supplies:

Natural Fall Harvest elements from nature are great!
Twigs, bird nests, leaves, berries all bring a nice touch!
I also included:

Jute twine, fall ribbon, grapevine wreaths, fall picks, and burlap

for flowers and leaves.

Let the FUN begin!

First: Start with the stem of the pumpkin,

I simply used my glue gun to attach the decorative items.

Second: Add rolled burlap flowers and leaves.

Third: Add Fall picks and ribbon.

There are so many creative ways to embellish your pumpkin!

I've been working on Christmas Cupcake Pin Cushions.

The zero calorie kind.

Here are just a few ideas to CREATE a Cupcake Pincushion for CHRISTMAS GIFTS.

I will ship your cupcake pin cushion in a "HO HO" Bakery Box.

Cupcake Pin Cushions are made with strawberry, cherry and polka dot fabrics.

The fabrics are versatile for year round.

Each Christmas Cupcake comes with a apple green and white polka dot ramekin dish.

My daughter found this cute treat on our door step today!

It's really good and cute for a FALL TREAT!

Just dropping by to share it with you!

8-10 cups graham cereal

8 cups minature marshmellows

1 medium size bag M&M's

Carmel popcorn

2 (11 1/2 ounce) bags milk chocolate chips

Mix all ingredients to taste (based on personal preference)

Scoop 2-3 cups into individual bags, tie with tags as shown.

Pass it along-
